YES! HISTORY IS DONE! we finally finished with history so now we all have nothing to do unles we start up sooner than expected on the essay which will be twice as fun our choice on anything in European history. what now?!
You know, now that I think about it, I'd like to suggest that you do something concerning Spain. The dictator Franco, to be more specific. Thing is, you'll be studying Latin America and Canada all year next year, and I figure that will be the most helpful to you.
Just a suggestion. Congratulations on making it through AP/IB Euro History!

Art is a kind of innate drive that seizes a human being and makes him its instrument. The artist is not a person endowed with free will who seeks his own ends, but one who allows art to realize its purpose through him. (Carl Jung)

Well what I was referencing with Franco was the Spanish Civil War. Ever seen the Picasso piece called "Guernica"? ( if you haven't...) I know the topic has to be pretty focused for the paper, so you could even focus on one or two battles and the horrific events in them. Guerilla warfare was put into use a lot and the massacre of Guernica (the basis of the painting) was really tragic (and yes, gory). Just try a Google search for "Franco Spanish Civil War Human Rights Violations" or "Franco Spanish Civil War Guernica."
For Stalin, you could easily do the purges. Not sure if that would be too uncommon, as everyone researches them anyways, but it's worth a paper if you want to. For Bismarck, I'm not sure how much horrific content you'd get besides the war thing, and that's a given considering he was a general. Of your two suggestions, I'd probably go with Stalin because you could write a more gory paper (hopefully on a more obscure topic though), and only with Bismarck if you could find a less known set of events that might contradict a different perspective you've learned about.
Good luck!
